this forsaken place
and tell me what you see
the shattered glass
and broken things
for some reason
remind myself of me

am but a hollow shell
a wretched mess
potential without utility
merely remnants
of the edifice I once was made to be

Please
look into the broken windows of my mind
my eyes conceal the scraps left inside
nothing but chipped paint
broken hinges
webs, rust, and lies

Still
I can't deny
that once I was host to a soul
who was proud to call this vessel "mine"

Now
with tagged walls
my flesh disguises these vacant halls
behind a cloak
of strength and perseverance

Yet
just as the foundation
of this deserted place stands strong
so too
my soul
remains untainted
holding up the rubble
just waiting for the wrecking ball
